Course Outline
Module 1: AI Essentials for Project Managers
Key areas covered include: Understanding Large Language Models (LLMs); Core AI concepts such as prompting, hallucination, and context; Distinctions between AI systems and conventional automation; An overview of the AI tools featured in the course (ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot); and a live demonstration of text generation and interpretation using these tools.
Module 2: Prompt Engineering for Project Management
Topics include: Fundamentals of prompt design; Techniques such as zero-shot, few-shot, and role-based prompting; Tailoring prompts for specific project management tasks; Strategies for evaluating and refining AI responses; and practical exercises focused on creating prompts for real-world project scenarios.
Module 3: Applying AI in Project Initiation
Topics include: Drafting project charters with AI assistance; Creating project objectives and scope statements; Streamlining stakeholder analysis; Identifying early-stage project risks with AI support; and assessing AI-generated outputs for both accuracy and completeness.
Module 4: AI in Planning and Scheduling
Topics include: Generating Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) with AI; Developing milestone plans and project timelines; Utilising AI-assisted estimation techniques; Producing resource allocation recommendations; and polishing planning outputs through structured prompt engineering.
Module 5: AI in Risk and Issue Management
Topics include: Conducting predictive risk analysis with AI; Populating risk registers from project descriptions; Classifying and triaging issues with AI aid; Formulating mitigation strategies supported by AI; and organising risk data using tables and structured prompts.
Module 6: AI in Stakeholder Communication
Topics include: Automating the creation of project reports; Generating executive summaries from project data; Adjusting tone and style to suit different stakeholders; Converting technical details into business-friendly updates; and handling sensitive communications with AI support.
Module 7: AI Ethics and Governance in Projects
Topics include: Recognising risks associated with AI bias and hallucination; Applying responsible AI practices in professional settings; Addressing data privacy considerations and the GDPR framework; Establishing AI usage policies for project teams; and implementing human-in-the-loop validation processes.
Module 8: AI Tools for Project Managers and Adoption Strategy
Topics include: Leveraging Microsoft Copilot across Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook; Determining when to use Copilot versus ChatGPT or other AI platforms; Comparing various AI tools for project management support; Constructing an AI adoption roadmap for teams; and creating a personal AI action plan for project tasks.
Requirements
Attendees should possess foundational experience within project teams or project-based environments. A working knowledge of standard project management principles—such as planning, risk management, and stakeholder communication—is advisable.
Previous exposure to Artificial Intelligence tools is not a prerequisite for this course.
