Training Skills

  • Delivery of a pre-prepared training session on a subject chosen by the delegate, relevant to their specific role.

Note: The duration of each delegate's training session is determined by the overall course length and the number of participants. A group of eight is considered ideal.

  • Comprehensive one-to-one and group feedback

Preparing a Training Session

  • Key questions for the trainer to consider in advance:
    • Why am I the right person to deliver this?
    • Logistics: What, where, when, how, and for how long?
    • Understanding how the answers to these questions influence the structure of the training session
  • Structuring the content:
    • Research – gaining a thorough understanding of the subject
    • Organizing the content logically
    • Creating and utilizing complementary visual aids

Preparing the Trainer

  • The three fundamental communication tools for a trainer:
    • Verbal – choosing appropriate words and avoiding slang or jargon
    • Vocal – controlling the tone and sound of words, while avoiding distracting verbal tics or pauses
    • Visual – the presenter's appearance, including attire, mannerisms, and overall presence
  • Rehearsing the training session and obtaining honest feedback from a reliable source
  • Strategies for coping with nerves

Preparing the Environment

  • Room layouts and how they convey subtle messages to course attendees
  • Leveraging the physical space to enhance the training experience
  • Properly concluding the session with cleanup

Evaluation

  • The importance of evaluation
  • Processes for collecting and applying delegate feedback

  • Delivery of another training session (following a suitable preparation period).
